I have finally arrived in State College! I got here Tuesday night and the drive wasn’t that bad actually – it was only three hours from Pittsburgh. I don’t have much time but I’ll sum up my week in this quick paragraph.
I love Penn State! It’s a beautiful campus and I really like the East Coast, except for the weather. It’s FREEZING here. Anyways, I’m serving in a small YSA branch and there are a total of four sisters in the branch. We work very closely together and we don’t really have any boundaries. We can teach whoever is under 30 or married couples without kids who goes to Penn State. The majority of our investigators are students from China so my Chinese skills are being tested hardcore out here. I have a hard time understanding them because of their accent and different vocabulary words, so I’ve been studying Chinese a ton. I met with the mission branch leader and he expressed concern for some of the Chinese recent converts. Since there are no Chinese members, except for the recent converts, it is hard for them to sometimes understand what is going on in church, which makes it easy for them to fall away and stop coming. Justin (mission branch leader) would really like me to extend another transfer here because once I go back to Temple Square, there will be no more Chinese-speaking missionaries and school doesn’t end until May. I’m supposed to go back at the beginning of April, so he’s worried about what will happen to the Chinese members/investigators during April and May.
We met with two Chinese investigators this past week who both have baptismal dates. They are R and J. When we met with R, he told us that he has been reading the Book of Mormon and really believes that it’s true! J is starting to recognize Heavenly Father and our Savior’s love for him and he expressed how grateful he was for that. He asked us how he got so lucky to hear about the gospel. I was really touched by that because I know there are so many people who don’t even know what they’re missing and it was so awesome to witness him realizing that we do have a Father in Heaven who loves us and knows us.
Anyways, my time is up. I miss you all so much but I’m having a good time here, even if it is cold and windy.
