Hello everyone! This past week, we had zone conference, which is a meeting with our mission president and a couple other zones in the mission. A couple sisters came over the night before to stay at our place since they lived a couple hours away. Well, the morning of zone conference, we woke up and we saw that there was a lot of commotion outside. We soon realized that the apartment right next to us was ON FIRE! We could see smoke coming out of the window and there were a ton of ambulances and firefighters outside. Apparently, an electrical fire had started in the attic in our neighbor’s and they were evacuating people who were in that building. They had the fire maintained for the most part, but they told us to pack up our valuable things in case we needed to evacuate at the last second as well. So as you can imagine, this was a really hectic morning. We were running around, packing up all our things while trying to get ready for zone conference at the same time. It’s funny how in situations like this, you realize what matters most to you. None of the things that I grabbed were material things. I only had the clothes on my back and everything else that I packed away were scriptures/study materials, all my letters from home and journals that I’ve kept since I’ve been on my mission. Situations like this really make you stop and think about what’s truly important in your life. I hope that we can always remember to not take some things for granted. Luckily, the fire was quickly contained and all of us missionaries were okay.
Zone conference was amazing though! We focused a lot on how to find the people who have been prepared for us. Our mission president encouraged us to not pray for new investigators but to pray for the courage and faith to go and find them. There are people waiting to hear the gospel – we just need to do our part to find them. Our mission president also focused on working with members. Members are so important in missionary work – we really can’t do it without them! Sometimes, just being a member of the Church goes a long way. People notice your example and that honestly goes a long way.
Anyways, I really have to go now! It’s still really cold here….it was like 18 degrees when I got up this morning. I can’t wait for springtime.
